Vegetables

Vegetables are grown using the best organic practices. We extend our growing season by starting and finishing it in the green house that only uses the natural sunshine for its heat.

We start all growing by first carefully looking after the soil so that it can supply the plants with all the nutrients they need for healthy growth, without having to add any extra fertilizer. This good, biologically active soil also helps the plant protect itself naturally from any pests and diseases.

Box Deliveries

We grow a good mix of vegetables and herbs which change with the season. This enables us to add a variety to our boxed deliveries, since we tend to go for the range of items rather than bulk in our boxes. Majority of the boxes of vegetables are delivered directly to the customers’ door. Most of our vegetables are harvested on the day of the delivery to retain the natural taste and the freshness of the farm. Our range of vegetables starts with all the spring greens like spinach, kale, Swiss chard, Chinese cabbage, Kamatsuna, lettuce and mixed salad bag. These are followed by things like spring onions, red and white radishes, rhubarb, peas, beans, beets, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini and summer squash. By this time it is almost time for the winter squashes and rutabaga and pumpkins. Many of our vegetables are heirloom varieties. The range of vegetables will vary depending on the growing season but the box will contain the best of the farm that week.

Customers sign up for a season, with a non refundable deposit of $15. This gets them on my delivery list and entitles them to the use of two wooden boxes assigned with their number. Now they belong to a club and their part in it is to remember to put the empty box out on Wednesday morning (our delivery day) along with the payment for the full box. Payment is made at the time of delivery. This allows for the cancellations for holidays etc. Some customers prefer to prepay a month or more ahead. In that case I just remind them when the next payment is due. The cost of the delivered box is $35. If the customers are too far east in Ottawa, I get them to meet me at an assigned place at a predetermined time (by cell phone), unless they want to pay extra for the delivery to their door.
